Preview new White Stripes Live Disc for Free

https://i0.wp.com/cdn.pitchfork.com/media/weposter452.jpgIn a bid seemingly to prove to fans that the White Stripes are NOT permanently defunct (even amidst announcement of a new Dead Weather album title and release date), Jack + Meg drop Under Great White Northern Lights, a live album culled from the Stripes’ buzzworthy Canadian tour in support of 2007’s Icky Thump. It’s a pretty fun set: happy to see “The Union Forever” up there, and I appreciate the slowed down, legible reading of “Fell in Love With a Girl”.

Only drawbacks would be that the recordings are three years old, that the accompanying film allegedly contains footage of Meg breaking down in tears on or near the stage (hinting at the reasons for the cancellation of U.S. dates that followed?), and that if a new White Stripes studio album doesn’t materialize soon, we’re going to be heading into four-year-album-gap territory, which in classic rock discographical theory almost always equates to “loss of momentum”.

Listen to the new live disc on Spinner.
