David Simon’s ‘Treme’: 6 days to go!

https://i0.wp.com/www.filmschoolrejects.com/images/treme03.jpg

David Simon, creator of the single greatest TV drama I’ve ever watched (The Wire), is back with a new series on HBO. Treme chronicles the lives of various + sundry New Orleans residents in the immediate months following Hurricane Katrina. There’s going to be a significant musical focus to the show in that two of the main characters, played by Wendell Pierce and Clarke Peters (Bunk Moreland and Lester Freeman from The Wire), portray down-on-their-luck New Orleans performers, each scratching to preserve the rich jazz traditions of their neighborhood amidst a tragedy of the power to wash them away forever. I especially look forward to learning more about the roots of Jazz: it was basically invented in New Orleans, and I have yet to develop a full appreciation. Plus, come on! It’s a David Simon drama! The characters! The stories! It doesn’t get any better than this!

Treme premiers on HBO this coming Sunday, April 11.
