R.I.P. Eyedea

The Twin Cities lost one of its premiere underground MCs last weekend when Mikey “Eyedea” Larsen died in his sleep at the age of 28. With toxicology results still pending, cause of death is currently unknown. Mikey was a native son of St. Paul and a graduate of Highland Park Senior High. During his brief career, Eyedea teamed with DJ partner Abilities  three albums on venerable Minneapolis hiphop label Rhymesayers Entertainment. Other projects included alt-rock outfit Carbon Carousel and Face Candy, a highly unique collab that found Mikey rhyming over free-jazz musicians. Expect the entire Rhymesayers crew (Atmosphere, Brother Ali) to come out for a First Ave tribute sometime soon, once the shock has subsided.
